Support for learning challenges
In August 2026, learning support in vocational education and training was reformed nationwide in accordance with the government program. The reform applies to programs leading to a degree and partial degrees.
Students now have access to more low-threshold support to help them complete their studies. Help, support, and guidance are available as soon as a student needs them. To receive support, a student does not need to have identified learning difficulties, a diagnosis, or a decision on special support. Support consists of remedial instruction provided by the instructor and other forms of support and guidance provided by teaching and counseling staff.
Examples of various learning challenges:
- Reading difficulties
- Attention and developmental difficulties
- Perceptual challenges
- Developmental language disorder
- Mathematical learning difficulties
- Life management challenges
- Autism spectrum
Support measures are planned in collaboration with Student Services, the student, and the assigned instructor. If necessary, support measures can also be planned for workplace-based learning.
Special support
If a student requires long-term or regular support, or one-to-one or small-group tuition from a special needs teacher, due to learning difficulties, a disability, an illness or any other reason, a decision on special support may be made for that student. Such a decision may also be made if the learning support measures already provided are insufficient. Once a decision on special support has been made, a special needs teacher will draw up a statement. The statement sets out the key support measures for the student, and the special needs teacher will monitor their implementation every 1–3 months. Special support is also provided during workplace-based learning, if the student so wishes.
