Student benefits

Meal Subsidy

Students in full-time, self-motivated vocational qualification programs and preparatory training (not labor market training or apprenticeship training) are entitled to a free meal. The right to a free meal applies on days when the student’s personal competence development plan requires their presence at the training location designated by the education provider. Attendance is required on contact study days and during workplace learning. Read more information about lunch.

Student Cards

All upper secondary students are entitled to a free student card via the Frank App. With the Frank App, you can access student discounts from VR and Matkahuolto, as well as many other benefits. Activating the app is easy and free. Read more about the Frank App.

As a TAKK student, you may also be eligible to obtain a student card from the Finnish Association of Vocational Students (SAKKI ry) or the Finnish Student Alliance (OSKU ry). Check the associations’ websites for more information on the requirements for these cards.

Apprenticeship Social Benefits

An apprenticeship student is entitled to social benefits if the employer does not pay wages during contact study days. These benefits include, for example, mileage allowance, daily allowance, and family allowance. Apply for the benefits for the first time using the form below and return it to your responsible teacher. For subsequent applications, you can apply via Studenta.

Sports Benefits

TAKK students can use the gym and sports facilities located on the Nirva campus.

School Transport Subsidy

Starting from August 1, 2025, the right to school transport subsidy will apply only to students eligible for free upper secondary education:

  • You completed basic education in 2021 or later
  • You were born in 2004 or later
  • Education is free until the end of the calendar year in which you turn 20
  • The right ends earlier if you graduate from upper secondary education

Electronic applications and more information about the school transport subsidy can be found on Kela’s website.
